The past week third graders listened to the amazing story of Wilma Rudolph. We read, Wilma Unlimited, and discussed how she was able to overcome polio and become the fastest woman in the world. Students were engaged and had many questions about vaccinations and diseases and how we have come so far in the medical field today. However, students also pointed out we have a long way to go to cure other cancers and Alzheimer's disease. Students were so caring and genuinely concerned with how we can advance our knowledge and wipe out these diseases and hopefully find cures soon.
Next week we will take a break for a more "happy" subject matter.

Welcome Adam Lehrhaupt! Our second graders were so excited for your visit to our school. I am so happy we were chosen as part of your book tour to promote your newest title, This is a Good Story!
What a clever way to introduce story elements to students. After returning back to class I had a teacher share with me several positive comments her students made about the book and your presentation. I only wish all students could have experienced this teachable moment.
Thank you to Quail Ridge Books who made this all possible!

Welcome back to school! We are in the second year of a traditional calendar and it is difficult for me as a teacher. However, I get so much enjoyment in watching all our huskies return to school, especially our Husky pups (kindergarteners). My schedule this year is the same as last. I teach six classes every day and I am on a seven day rotation.
Our first week I introduced our students to fun stories to get them acclimated to the library, explain some expectations to keep them safe and the library somewhat organized. We also check out one book on their first day to establish a routine from the very beginning. I also allow kinders to check out one book their very first day. After all, isn't that why they are excited about coming?....and to support reading and literacy?
